The Maybach Ocean Club Contract
Developing highly specialized, large-scale custom vessels requires shipyards with proven technical backgrounds. German shipyard Lloyd Werft has officially been appointed as the construction partner for the 155-metre superyacht Beyond Horizons. This project operates as the central asset for the Maybach Ocean Club, functioning as an invitation-only private members’ club at sea. The concept was initially introduced at the 2025 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show by Splendid Sea, a company co-founded by superyacht captain Matthias Bosse and private club entrepreneur Michael Hehn.
Structural and Automotive Integration
The architectural profile of Beyond Horizons relies on heavy cross-industry collaboration. The 155-metre hull was developed through a joint effort between Splendid Sea, German naval architects Dölker + Voges, and the design team at Mercedes-Maybach. The exterior styling draws direct inspiration from the Mercedes-Maybach automotive aesthetic, utilizing elongated proportions, sculptural surface details, and a distinct color palette that incorporates the brand’s signature rose-gold finish to differentiate it from standard commercial superyachts.
Residential Suites and Guest Accommodations
The interior configuration prioritizes uniform luxury over staggered cabin classes. The vessel is designed to accommodate up to 72 members and guests across 30 identical residential-style suites. Each suite provides approximately 74 square metres of living space and includes a private balcony. To handle temporary influxes of visitors, the layout incorporates six additional guest cabins located forward, specifically designated for short-term use by invited friends and family of the primary members.
Operational Amenities and Logistics
A vessel operating as a floating private sanctuary requires extensive onboard infrastructure. The deck plans for Beyond Horizons include panoramic lounges, multiple haute-cuisine dining concepts, comprehensive wellness and spa facilities, and a split-level infinity pool. At the waterline, the engineering incorporates a marina-style beach club providing direct ocean access. To preserve the aesthetic purity of the primary vessel, all tenders, watercraft, and heavy operational logistics will be managed by a dedicated support vessel stationed nearby.
The 2029 Delivery Timeline
The formal appointment of Lloyd Werft was finalized during a signing ceremony at the Mercedes-Benz Centre of Excellence. Thorsten Rönner, managing director of Lloyd Werft, noted that the project represents a forward-looking approach to community-based yachting, requiring the highest level of manufacturing capability. The shipyard, known for delivering complex explorer yachts like Luna and Solaris, has scheduled the delivery and maiden voyage of Beyond Horizons for 2029. The vessel’s operational itineraries will split between the Mediterranean in the summer and the Caribbean during the winter months.
