Founded in 1987 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Horizon Yacht, the parent company of Horizon Group, was established by CEO John Lu, Mr. Gong Shan Chiai, and Mr. Cheng Shun Hui. John Lu, a naval architect, was driven by a mission to build ultimate dream yachts for clients, a vision that remains central to Horizon Yachts’ ethos today. In 1993, Lu foresaw a burgeoning demand for high-value megayachts, leading Horizon to start constructing yachts over 80 feet (24M), a significant milestone that marked the company’s foray into the luxury megayacht sector.

As Horizon encountered production limitations, Lu’s focus shifted to enhancing production capacity through specialized processes and improving product quality. Between 2000 to 2005, Lu restructured Horizon’s subsidiary companies – Atech Composites, Vision Yachts, and Premier Yacht – each specializing in different aspects of yacht construction and maintenance. This restructuring not only optimized production processes but also expanded Horizon’s capabilities to offer a comprehensive range of services, from building yachts ranging from 52 to 80 feet to maintaining and refitting superyachts over 100 feet. This expansion culminated in the formation of Horizon Group, integrating these companies under one cohesive organization.

Horizon Yachts has grown to become the leading Asian brand in the luxury yacht market. Contributing to one-third of Taiwan’s total yacht exports, Horizon has elevated Taiwan to be among the world’s top five luxury megayacht-building nations. The company’s commitment to quality and innovation is widely recognized, earning Horizon the title of “Best Asian Motor Yacht Builder” for 13 consecutive years. Furthermore, Horizon is distinguished as one of the Top 10 Global Superyacht Companies by The Superyacht Report and stands as the first and only member of SYBAss (Superyacht Builder’s Association) from the Far East.
