From High-Speed Roots to Fast Transit
British design studio Humphreys Yacht Design has introduced the flagship of its new Fast-Transit Explorer series, designated as the FTX110. This 33.8-metre concept represents the pinnacle of a planned lineup that will span from 15 to 34 metres. The origins of this flagship link directly to a custom commission from a client fascinated by Ermis², the studio’s famous 38-metre carbon superyacht that achieved top speeds of 58 knots. Rather than chasing pure velocity, the FTX110 adapts that proven deep-v planing hull platform for balanced, multi-role ocean use.
The Performance Profile of the FTX110
Engineering a hull to perform reliably across multiple velocity bands requires precision machinery. The FTX110 utilizes triple Volvo Penta IPS 2700 engines paired with an integrated, IMO Tier 3 compliant SCR system. This configuration propels the vessel to a maximum speed of 40 knots, while maintaining an optimal fast cruising speed between 20 and 30 knots. For distance passages, the hull transitions into an efficient displacement mode, offering a 1,000 nautical mile range at 20 knots, which extends past 2,000 nautical miles when slowing down to 12 knots.
Maximizing the Low-Level Waterfront
A primary objective for the design team was establishing an immediate, physical relationship between the guests and the ocean. Renderings of the flagship highlight an expansive, low-level aft deck that sits close to the water surface. This layout functions as an integrated swim platform, providing direct, unhindered entry to the sea. The design also incorporates dedicated storage solutions that allow crew members to launch and retrieve a diverse selection of tenders and water toys quickly, serving as a functional base for diving or wilderness exploration.
Volume and Onboard Accommodations
The yacht packages its performance capabilities within a total volume of 180GT, optimizing the internal layout to accommodate eight guests comfortably. The configuration also provides separate living quarters for a crew of six, ensuring a high service ratio during long-distance itineraries. This release follows a highly active period for the British studio, which completed the naval architecture and exterior styling for JFA Yachts’ custom 50-metre explorer project earlier this year. The FTX110 applies that same pedigree to a fast-transit platform.
