Defining the Sub-24-Metre Maxi
The marine market heavily favors platforms that maximize usable volume while remaining strictly under specific regulatory lengths. Nautor Swan addressed this operational demand by launching the Swan 80 during a traditional ceremony in Pietarsaari. Serving as the opening model for the brand’s Maxi range, the vessel compresses the offshore capability of a significantly larger yacht into a sub-24-metre format. This exact sizing allows owners to access performance sailing capabilities while maintaining regulatory simplicity and long-range cruising confidence.
The Collaborative Architectural Profile
Developing a recognizable and functional profile requires direct input from multiple naval disciplines. The Swan 80 relies on naval architecture by Germán Frers, exterior styling by Lucio Micheletti, and interior design executed by Misa Poggi. This collective effort distills the visual language previously seen on the Swan 88, 108, and 128 into a more compact footprint. The resulting aesthetic utilizes clean volumes, a low-profile coachroof, and a long, uninterrupted deck to create a continuous sense of motion even when the vessel is at rest.
Offshore Performance and Hull Construction
Heavy-duty cruising dictates a rigid, highly engineered structural foundation. Nautor Swan constructs the hull using foam-cored glass fibre reinforced epoxy paired directly with carbon fibre reinforcements to ensure maximum physical strength. The underwater profile features twin rudders for precise control under heel, along with a refined bow entry and powerful aft sections designed to balance speed and stability over long passages. Operators can select from multiple keel configurations, ranging from deep fixed to shallow and telescopic lifting options. The build also incorporates sealed structural compartments and sacrificial rudder tips to increase overall safety.
Deck Logistics and the Transom Beach
The exterior working environment is specifically optimized for both fully crewed operations and short-handed sailing. A nearly flush teak surface runs the entire length of the vessel from the cockpit to the stern, allowing for effortless movement across the deck. Twin helm stations position the winches and operational controls for highly intuitive handling. At the stern, the transom folds down to create a dedicated beach platform that provides direct access to the swimming area and an integrated tender garage.
Adaptable Interior Geometry
The internal layout is structured around intelligent flexibility and discrete crew service. The initial hull features a forward master suite, a forward VIP cabin, and two aft guest cabins, supported by completely separate aft crew quarters with independent access points. To preserve an uncluttered environment, the technical areas are routed entirely beneath the saloon sole. The Swan 80 is scheduled to make its world premiere at the upcoming Cannes Yachting Festival before its sailing debut at the Rolex Swan Cup.
