Defining the Crossover Prototype

Merging shallow-water capability with offshore stability requires a strict balance of draft and deadrise. Grady-White directly addresses this demand with the 321 Coastal Explorer (CE). Operating as the flagship of the Coastal Explorer series, this 32-foot center console functions as a genuine hybrid. Built on the builder’s proprietary SeaV2 hull featuring a 16-degree transom deadrise, the vessel maintains a shallow 22-inch hull draft while retaining the ride quality necessary for deep-water transit. This design logic allows operators to push offshore for pelagics in the morning and anchor in shallow coves by the afternoon without compromising either mission.

Power and Helm Command

Executing quick offshore runs requires significant thrust and precise management. The 321 CE is powered by twin 350 Yamaha four-stroke engines. At optimum cruise (3500 RPM), the vessel burns 17.4 gallons per hour, returning 1.70 MPG, and scales up to a top speed of 56.3 mph. The helm is governed by the Helm Master EX system with Full Maneuverability, ensuring tight control in congested marinas. The operator commands the vessel from a Deluxe Lean Bar equipped with three horizontally adjustable Command Elite helm chairs featuring flip-up bolsters and fold-down armrests.

Expanding the Deck Footprint

The layout emphasizes usable square footage both inside and outside the gunnels. A standout feature of the 321 CE is the integration of electromechanically folding “Sport Decks” on both the port and starboard sides. When deployed, these fold-down hull platforms massively expand the beam past its standard 10 feet 6 inches, creating broad, low-to-the-water access for diving, swimming, or hauling in large catches. A specialized boarding ladder stows seamlessly within the starboard lean bar storage when not in use.

The Fishing and Storage Logistics

A vessel classified for offshore fishing must carry the necessary aquatic infrastructure. The aft cockpit features port and starboard 18-gallon insulated raw water livewells, while the forward deck houses twin 108-quart insulated fish boxes with overboard drains. Rod management is handled through a combination of bow, amidships, and aft rod holders, totaling 11, alongside horizontal storage racks and vertical console mounts. A 134-quart cooler rests securely beneath the forward console lounge seat to manage provisions during extended day trips.

Console Architecture and Amenities

Heavy-duty fishability is balanced by comprehensive onboard comfort. The center console structure includes a lockable acrylic door leading to an interior head compartment. This space features a Corian countertop, a sink with a pull-out shower, and a VacuFlush head connected to a 10-gallon holding tank. Above deck, the fiberglass T-top integrates directly into a frameless laminated glass windshield equipped with a washer and wiper system. The overhead structure is fully rigged with LED spreader lights, a radio box, and radar flat plates, completing the vessel’s technical profile.
