Scaling the Maxi-RIB Profile

Italian shipyards are actively pushing the physical parameters of the rigid inflatable boat sector. Novamarine recently confirmed the sale of the first BS 260 unit to an Italian client. Scheduled for delivery in 2028, this massive platform officially operates as the largest offering within the builder’s Black Shiver range, which includes models scaling down to the 10-metre BS 100 and the 20.1-metre BS 200. Chairman and CEO Francesco Pirro views this contract as a critical shift for the company, establishing new structural expectations for performance-focused pleasure craft.

The 26-Metre Black Shiver Architecture

Constructing a vessel of this scale requires maintaining the core stability of a RIB while integrating the volume of a traditional yacht. The BS 260 measures exactly 26 metres in length and utilizes a seven-metre beam. Large pneumatic tubes run continuously along the exterior sides, acting as an essential architectural component to guarantee buoyancy and safety. The exterior profile retains a low, taut stance characterized by a clean bow and a highly compact central superstructure.

Redefining Deck Logistics

Maximizing the massive exterior footprint dictates a fluid transition between social zones. The stern features a large open deck completely dedicated to outdoor living, incorporating fitted sofa seating and a direct connection to the waterline. Moving forward, the layout flows into a protected central social area. Rather than functioning as a fully enclosed saloon, this space acts as a sheltered deck section featuring twin sofas, a central dining table, large glazed side panels, and overhead openings that flood the area with natural light.

Below-Deck Accommodations

Extended coastal cruising requires dedicated internal volume. The BS 260 utilizes its seven-metre beam to house a substantial cabin layout. The lower deck provides three distinct guest cabins designed to deliver a serene, welcoming atmosphere during overnight transits. To ensure optimal privacy and efficient onboard management, the naval architects integrated a fourth cabin dedicated entirely to the crew.

Heavy-Duty MTU Propulsion

Driving a 26-metre RIB requires immense mechanical thrust. Novamarine outfits the BS 260 with twin MTU engines generating a collective 4,400 horsepower. This specific propulsion network allows the heavy hull to achieve high top speeds while maintaining precise handling characteristics in challenging offshore conditions. The mechanical integration ensures the vessel delivers the aggressive performance inherent to the Novamarine brand without sacrificing passenger comfort.

Industrial Trust and Commercial Growth

Securing a contract for a flagship vessel before physical construction begins indicates strong market confidence. The successful sale of the BS 260 reinforces Novamarine’s position in the custom tender and maxi-RIB sector. This commercial momentum aligns directly with recent industrial moves, including last year’s agreement with Palumbo Superyachts to produce customized tenders across their four corporate brands.
