Marine technology company Galvanic Works is addressing this industry challenge with Galvanic Voice, an onboard platform engineered to convert complex NMEA 2000 telemetry into direct spoken announcements. Founder and CCO Natalie Smith highlighted that conventional audible alarms often sound identical, forcing tired crews to leave the cockpit at 3am to verify the source. By substituting generic beeps with clear vocal directives across five launch languages—English, Spanish, French, Italian, and German—the system reduces distraction and improves decision-making at sea.

Pre-Orders and Commercial Delivery Timeline

The Mallorca-based developer has officially opened pre-orders for the system, requiring no recurring subscription fee. Scheduled for commercial delivery in Q4 2026, early orders during the launch window include six Galvanic Pulse crew wristbands. To complement the physical hardware, Galvanic Works is releasing the free Galvanic Fatigue Calculator app for iOS and Android, alongside the primary Galvanic App companion interface designed for configuration, charting, and remote vessel monitoring.

NMEA 2000 Connectivity and Hardware Build

The hardware integrates directly into a vessel’s existing NMEA 2000 framework, functioning as a central communication relay between onboard sensors, battery monitors, autopilots, and AIS receivers. Mounted via a single dashboard cutout, the IP67-rated casing features a Gorilla Glass 3 front panel that operates as a vibrating surface for its 20-watt speaker. A perimeter ring of twelve RGB LEDs provides visual directional cues for reported events, while an idle power draw of 1.1 watts—approximately 26 watt-hours per day—ensures minimal battery drain during extended anchorages.

Integrated Wristband Telemetry for MOB Safety

Beyond monitoring vessel systems and AIS collision risks, the platform incorporates automatic Man Over Board detection utilizing the bundled Galvanic Pulse wristbands. If the main unit loses signal from a crew wristband for roughly ten seconds, the system automatically initiates an emergency protocol without requiring manual intervention. The voice output instantly communicates the relative bearing and distance of the submerged individual, while multi-device verification on larger networks prevents false triggers caused by structural bulkheads or radio interference.

The introduction of Galvanic Voice aligns with a broader expansion across the commercial and recreational marine IoT sector. Equipment manufacturers are increasingly prioritizing how data is interpreted and delivered, drawing on methodologies from robotics, data analytics, and artificial intelligence.
