Condensing the Daysailer Flagship
Translating the design language of a 14-metre yacht into a smaller footprint requires precise structural adjustments. Following the successful introduction of the SL 46, Dutch manufacturer Saffier Yachts is shrinking that specific platform down to a 12.50-metre overall length. The shipyard has officially laid the keel for the new Saffier SL 38, a mid-range model designed to permanently replace the outgoing SE 37 Lounge. This transition reflects a calculated effort to bring flagship-level aesthetics into a more compact daysailer category.
Customizing the Transom Layout
Operators interact with the stern of a vessel differently depending on their cruising habits. Saffier addresses this by offering the SL 38 in two distinct architectural versions. Buyers can select a completely open stern for immediate water access or a closed bridge deck aft that incorporates a dedicated lounge area and sunbed. The closed configuration utilizes a small, folding bathing platform, mirroring the design language seen on the manufacturer’s smaller Elegance line.
Concealed Routing and Rigging Options
Maintaining a clean deck profile relies on aggressive line management. The naval architects routed all sheets, halyards, and trim lines entirely below deck, directing them to winches positioned immediately in front of the steering columns. This specific ergonomic choice allows the helmsman and crew to execute maneuvers without leaving the primary control station. The factory equips the hull with a standard aluminium Seldén rig featuring two spreaders and Dacron sails. For operators prioritizing weight reduction, the shipyard offers an optional carbon fibre rig complete with a carbon main boom and rod shrouds.
Open Architecture Below Deck
Maximizing perceived space within a 3.80-metre beam demands an open floorplan. The standard ex-shipyard interior configuration eliminates the forward bulkhead, creating a spacious, loft-style atmosphere throughout the cabin. The layout features generous double cabins located forward and aft on the port side, while the saloon sofas provide additional berthing capacity. A starboard wet room incorporates a shower option and a dedicated wet locker for foul weather gear, positioned opposite an L-shaped galley near the companionway.
Düsseldorf Premiere and Financial Specifications
The physical debut of the vessel requires a major international platform. Saffier Yachts has scheduled the world premiere of the SL 38 for the January 2027 trade fair in Düsseldorf. The shipyard established a base price of €392,700, which includes 19 per cent VAT and the standard Dacron mainsail and self-tacking jib. Propelled by a 30-horsepower Yanmar diesel engine paired with a Saildrive, the 6.5-tonne yacht carries a 2.5-tonne ballast and provides a 130-litre fuel capacity for extended coastal transits.
